What is the best way to consolidate debt?

I have a lot of credit card debt. We are now starting to pay them off, but the apr’s are so high (29.99%) it’s hard to even see it drop. I do not have a house to use as equity. Have never filed for bankruptcy or anything like that. We just have a very high debt to income ratio. Credit score is well below 700 as well. What is the best option to consolidate the cards to one lower apr? I cannot get new cards either, so that is out of the question.

Consolidating Debt vs Paying all of your debt?

I’m buried in debt. I owe about ,000 in credit card debt. I thought about consolidating all of my debt, but most companies charge 15% or 20% from the debt amount. These companies promise to reduce your debt by 40% to 50%. One of their programs consisted in me opening an account where (after 1 or 2 years of depositing money) they will try to settle the account for less than the original amount. Now, I don’t know how is that going to affect me or my credit.
However, I’m doing something about this situation. I’ve been calling directly the credit card companies and I’ve explained my financial hardships. Most of them have agreed to negotiate with me; consequently, some of them have reduced my APR and have given me payment arrangements.

My question is the following: Should I continue to negotiate with the credit cards companies or should I get in of these consolidation programs?

Also, what’s the advantage of getting in one of these consolidating programs?
